Knitting and Stitching Show at Olympia

K&S Spring 14 Logo CMYK final

Last weekend I went to the Knitting and Stitching Show at Kensington Olympia and I have to show you the amazing costumes designed by A Level Textiles students that were on display as part of the National Fashion Competition for Schools.

The fairytale style pieces on the left were beautiful, and many designers had used innovative and upcycled materials, such as the ruffled gold piece below, which if you look closely you can see is made from paper with writing all over it. The stunning lavender dress featured a lacy corset with vertical stalks of lavender, almost like boning, pretty flecks of lavender buds, and a contrasting see-through acrylic skirt lined with more lavender stalks, combining the modern and artificial with the natural and traditional. My favourite piece was the Kopparberg dress, with a knitted and chain top and a skirt made from pink Kopparberg cider bottle tops (my favourite drink!). It has a medieval chain maille look to it but is pretty and delicate at the same time. Take a look…
